Will it go flat?
The wool used in MiniJumbuk products has been carefully chosen and treated to reduce flattening and felting. Our unique wash&LOFT process maintains the loft and life better than other products that don't have this treatment. In the case of MiniJumbuk pillows, the standard wool blend pillow filling is a special mix of wool and polyester used to increase loft and springiness. MiniJumbuk also produce pillows with a latex core for those who prefer a pillow that continually returns to its original shape.
All products flatten to some degree, but MiniJumbuk have taken great care to minimise this problem with our wash&LOFT process and special blend of wools.
Do you use any chemicals in your products?
MiniJumbuk use minimal treatments to improve the cleanliness and loft of our products and to make them healthier.
The following treatments are applied:
- Scouring - The wool off the sheep's back is thoroughly washed in detergent to remove dirt and vegetable matter.
- Ultra-Fresh - This process provides lasting freshness and effective control against dust mites.
- wash&LOFT - This is a conditioning treatment to improve loft and cleaning.
What is Ultra-Fresh and how does it work?
Ultra-Fresh is an intensive anti-microbial and anti-bacterial treatment of the raw fibres that provides lasting resistance to the growth of mould, mildew and fungi. It is not removed by washing or dry cleaning. Many household allergies are caused by the common dust mite which breeds readily in untreated materials. Dust mites feed exclusively on discarded human skin cells, which need to be decomposing for the mites to consume them. Deterring the growth of mould and mildew prevents dust mites from being able to survive, breed and colonise your bedding.
The Ultra-Fresh family of anti-microbials has 40 years of research and development behind it, and has been extensively tested and approved. It has been used world-wide with exemplary success, in products as varied as toothpaste, paint and clothing.
What is the wash&LOFT process and how does it make the wool washable?
The term wash&LOFT incorporates several processes, both in treatment of the wool and the way in which it is blended and carded. MiniJumbuk's wash&LOFT wool incorporates MycraLoft technology, a conditioning process which enables the wool to be washed.
The best way to explain how it does this is to understand the nature of wool fibres. Wool fibres are like individual human hairs. The shaft of each strand is covered with overlapping scales which can lock into each other causing tangles (or in the case of wool, felting and shrinkage when it is washed). The MycraLoft treatment is like applying conditioner to your hair, making it smoother and less likely to tangle when you wash it. By smoothing the scales on their surface, the wool fibres can slide easily over each other and can be washed without felting and shrinkage.
Can I wash my MiniJumbuk bedding products?
MiniJumbuk products that feature our exclusive wash&LOFT wool blend, are fully machine washable and can be tumble dried on a low setting - check your product's care label to ensure correct cleaning and treatment.
MiniJumbuk's 'Dry Clean Only' quilt and underlay cleaning intructions are clearly stated on the packaging and the care label on the product, for your Dry Cleaner to refer to.
Regular airing, avoiding excess heat and agitation, and using an industry approved wool wash, will extend your product's life span.
Our wool blend pillows can be hand washed, given a short spin and allowed to dry naturally.
The latex cores of our pillows should be spot cleaned with a damp sponge and detergent.
Do the pillows stain?
Why is wool better than feather and down?
Feather and down requires you to adjust the temperature by moving the filling, causing you to sometimes wake in the night. Wool works for you, adjusting your temperature naturally by absorbing excess moisture away from your body so you remain at a comfortable and more even temperature throughout the night.
It is also comforting to know that wool is a naturally non-allergenic fibre and at MiniJumbuk we further enhance this by specially treating our fillings and fabrics for lasting freshness and effective control against dust mites.
This makes MiniJumbuk quilts an ideal choice for people with asthma or allergies.
MiniJumbuk wool quilts also provide a more comfortable environment when two people, who have different body temperatures (i.e. one hot and the other cold) sleep in the same bed. This is due to wool's unique ability to adjust your body temperature naturally.
