Collette Dinnigan is one of Australia’s most successful fashion designers. Collette has exhibited in London and Paris and her clothes have been worn by leaders of world fashion, such as the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Mary of Denmark and Kylie Minogue.
Collette’s other passion is interior design. Whilst Collette lives in Sydney, she and her husband Bradley also have a seaside property at Milton, South of Sydney close to Mollymook and Ulladulla. Collette loved the breathtaking rainforest setting and the closeness to the beach, so the property was a natural choice. We think the styling and design at Collette’s country home is wonderful. Once the renovation was done Collette also found time to convert the old barn on a second parcel of land into accommodation for guests.
A creek runs through the property just near the house, a timber and stone building from the 1920s. There’s a trough of corrugated iron in the kitchen, a pizza oven in the dining room that’s filled with old leather chairs and unusual tables – and everywhere lots of white paint. One of her favourite parts of the house is the bar, which looks over the stream and forest. Collette has kept it simple, but her eye for detail is revealed in little clever touches, from the placement of flowers from the garden to the shell chandeliers from Bali in the bedroom.
Collette has created an organic vegetable garden and planted citrus trees and her favourite flowers -white hydrangeas and white magnolia. The outdoor life is great for Collette’s young family and they enjoy their chickens, horses and herd of alpacas.
