Christmas is only just around the corner! Christmas is such a special and exciting time, warm weather, maybe a few days away from work and the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. Equally, many find Christmas overwhelming, with the prospect of overnight visitors, extras to feed, gifts to consider or holidays to organise. If the thought of Christmas makes you feel jolly awful, here are a few tips to bring back your Ho Ho Ho.
The key is planning. Start with a big picture list then prioritise your list. Whilst this may be daunting, you will be able to break it down into smaller more manageable tasks and some may only take a few minutes to complete - never underrate the satisfaction of crossing off a job on your ‘to do’ list.
Try to shop early for gifts and wrap your presents as you go. Minimise financial stress by setting a budget and sticking to it. If you are unsure of what to buy vouchers are a wonderful gift. Entertain your children making your own wrap and cards or even some simple decorations for your tree.
If you are staying home and expecting guests, invest time now to properly clean your house. A good clean early means minimal cleaning last minute will suffice. Prepare any extra beds early and ensure that you have plenty of bedding. Likewise ensure you have adequate cutlery, crockery and glasses. Plan menus which can be made ahead and include dishes that can be frozen for later use.
For those away from home for Christmas and the holiday period, organise a pre-Christmas service for your car to ensure you travel safely. Now is the time to make arrangements for pets as kennels fill quickly. Recruit friends or neighbours to care for gardens or consider have a house sitter move in to keep an eye on things.
