It's all happening this week with the Royal Adelaide Show now on at the Adelaide Show Grounds until Sunday 13th September.
The Royal Adelaide Show gets bigger and better every year, and 2015 is no exception. This year the spectacular theatrical production of The Magical Gift of Mother Earth will be showing 4 times a day. A wonderful production created especially for the Show celebrating agriculture and those that live and work on the land. The Adelaide Show will also showcase the best of South Australia through horticultural displays, exhibitions, entertainment and food. Plus, we must not forget the famous show bags!
One of the major highlights are the many competitions. There are over 60 sections covering animals, cooking and craft and with over 33,000 entries this is a popular part of the show. It can be exciting to check out the judging of the animals and see the amazing care and attention to detail that is taken by owners when showing animals.
At MiniJumbuk the wool we use for all of our woollen bedding products is from cross bred sheep. This wool is perfect for bedding as it has an excellent crimp which helps to trap air and the crimp is able to retain its shape. One of the main breeds that our wool farmers use is the White Suffolk sheep. This breed is particularly suited to Australian conditions and produces an all-white fleece. This year the White Suffolk is a feature breed at the show and is backed to become the most dominant breed of sheep in South Australia despite the fact that the breed was only introduced in 1985.
So what does a judge look for when judging the best White Suffolk sheep Class? There are many things, but particularly important are bright and full eyes, a long level and well-muscled back and a firm dense wool with a modulated fibre.
With something to entertain everyone in the family the Adelaide Show is not to be missed.
