Why is wool better than polyester or down?

Why is wool better than polyester or down?

If you have ever spent the night under a wool quilt, it is likely that you slept soundly and woke feeling fabulous. For those who are finding a good night's sleep increasingly elusive, it may be time to take stock of your bedding and consider the benefits of sleeping with wool. Completely natural, renewable and biodegradable, studies show that sleeping with wool helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer - that's great news for you and the environment!

While polyester and down quilts have their advantages, wool bedding performs better and improves sleep efficiency for most people in both warm and cool climates.

Down

High on loft, warmth and price, down quilts are luxuriously light and fluffy. Filled with the fine interior feathers plucked from a goose or duck, these quilts create a superlight layer of natural insulation around the body. Down quilts are perfect for arctic winters but may be excessively warm for year round use. Long lasting and able to be dry cleaned, feather quilts are generally unsuitable for those affected by asthma or allergies.

Polyester

Soft, light and comparatively inexpensive, polyester and microfibre quilts offer lightweight warmth and are a good option for allergy sufferers as they are easy to wash and dry quickly.Unfortunately, the synthetic filling (a type of plastic) does not breathe leading to overheating and increased restlessness as you sleep. Quilts from man-made fibres will last many years, but are unable to be recycled and will end their life in landfill releasing micro plastics to the environment.

Wool

All-natural, wool is truly nature's miracle fibre. With its unique wicking properties, wool is able to absorb moisture, draw it away from the skin and allow it to evaporate into the atmosphere. A wool quilt helps to manage your body temperature as you sleep - no more hot and sweaty or cold and clammy! The breathability of wool creates a comfortable sleeping temperature year round, so you can benefit from deeper, uninterrupted sleep every night.

And when you combine great sleep with all the otherbenefits of wool, it's easy to see why wool is better than polyester or down.
